I was excited to hear about Dr. Tererai Trent on Oprah Tuesday. Dr. Terari graduated from my Alma mater Western Michigan university and she is not only mentioned in the must read Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide , she has been mentioned multiple times in the Op-ed's of New York Times Nicholas D. Kristof .
Tererai's story is one of resilience, persistence and triumph in her native country Zimbabwe, a country festered with poverty and economic dis fortune. To make a long story short, she survives her husband who dies of AIDS, moves to the United States with her five children and eventually earns her PHD at Western Michigan. I can barely manage my crazy little 1 year old daughter, but, this story just reflects the basics of what we have been taught as little girls: anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Dr. Tereai is a true Woman Warrior.
